E-campus for Nigerian Institutions
Aug 10, 2017

This project involves building a compute resource/grid for data science researchers in Nigeria. This grid will connect several HPCs and clusters in different locations. This will (1) provide access to tools, programs and open data, a "playground" where data scientists can perform analyses on their data (2) serve as a platform for learning programming/computational skills for data science research (3) a warehouse for storing open data generated within Nigeria institutions. This will be open to all Nigerian Institutions.

Aerogami: Learning how things fly by making paper planes
May 02, 2017

Do you know how things fly? Can you learn it by following links on the first page of Google search? Are open educational resources for reference only?

To help make learning new concepts in science more intuitive, easy and fun, we are designing an interactive open science education course on basic aerodynamics where you learn how things fly by making and flying paper planes and fidgeting with interactive web apps and games - all consolidated by (almost) jargon less content.

Open Science & Biomedical Equity University Report Card
Apr 26, 2017

UAEM's university report card evaluates institutions across given countries in their commitment to access to medicines developed by their academic community and beyond it, innovation in neglected areas of global health, open data and open access, and empowerment of students to address issues of access, innovation and transparency in global health. Grades are given based on data collected directly from universities and compiled through standardized online queries. Availability of and sharing of information pertaining to all metrics is also assessed as an indicator of open education.

Transparent Translations
Mar 06, 2017

We are looking to develop a FLOSS translation tool that allows us to collaboratively translate OER and other documents paragraph-by-paragraph with the possibility of editing and reviewing each translated section before approving it. This would benefit platforms like GitBook, Wikipedia and more as well.

The tool could be centrally hosted or deployed on private servers as needed. A responsive UI with the possibility of making word-by-word suggestions would allow reviewing even on mobile devices. There exist tools for i18n but they don't really suit document translations.

The Rebus Community
Feb 27, 2017
The Rebus Community is building a new, collaborative model for publishing open textbooks. We hope to build a community-driven, open textbook publishing process, supported by technology where appropriate. Equally important, we are building a global, connected community of people dedicated to increasing access to open education through open textbooks. Our goal is to make it easy for anyone to create or contribute to an open textbook.

SeeSD
Feb 21, 2017

At SeeSD, our mission is to promote STEM education in Senegal through Open Educational Resources and hands-on workshops. To this extent, we offer regular STEM hands-on workshops and training opportunities focusing on K-20 students. The first phase of our project is focused on K-12 students; we have offered workshops related to biology, physics, chemistry, environment, design, 3D printing, coding, and electronics. We believe that creating a MOOC platform, with workshops available in local languages will give us the opportunity to expand our audience and foster more learning opportunities for our members and teachers in Senegal.
