Recognizing Open Science as a true game-changer in addressing the pressing planetary and socio-economic challenges, UNESCO led a global dialogue with the aim of developing the first international standard-setting instrument on Open Science in the form of a UNESCO Recommendation. The Recommendation, adopted by 193 countries in November 2021 provides a common definition of open science, shared values and principles for open science and identifies concrete measures on open access and open data, with proposals to bring society closer to science and commitments to facilitate the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge worldwide. In her presentation, Dr Ana Persic, Programme Specialist at the Science Technology and Innovation Policy Section, UNESCO, will talk about UNESCO’s vision of using Open Science to strengthen the links between science and society and bridge the science, technology, and innovation (STI) gaps and will present the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science.
