OpenCon 2017 is now a few months behind us, and maybe for some fading from our memories. However, for many (we’re told!) in the room and online OpenCon was an inspiring, and often challenging, event. On this month’s community call we wanted to give a chance for folks to share their reflections and takeaways a few months on and hear what others took away from the meeting. How did the diversity, equity, and inclusion panel change your thinking, do you think about a problem differently after your workshop, what moment can’t you get out your head, what are you still thinking about or stuck on?
If it’s too late, and OpenCon is a long lost memory, take the chance to dive back in! Re-watch a panel from the meeting, or see what others have been saying. Many alumni have written at length, including:
- Claire Coulter who wrote about the three awesome things for her at the meeting,
- Julieta Arancio who wrote how the community is beginning to qualify the romantic vision of open, incorporate criticisms and work on them
- Laura Stankiewicz who wrote fantastically about what she brought, learned and took away
As ever, we welcome people who couldn't make it to OpenCon 2017 to join. It may still be valuable to hear what others got out the meeting, or perhaps this is a chance to dive into the highlights from OpenCon.
OpenCon community calls give a chance for you to learn what's happening in open research and education around the world, share what you're doing and find collaborators and opportunities.
Call Agenda
You can find all the agendas and minutes from community calls in one place, right here.
Calls are always better with your contributions! Here are some questions to get you thinking before the call:
-
- What stood out to you at the meeting?
- How have your views on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion shifted after the meeting?
- What was the most important thing you learned about Open, or yourself?
- What have you taken away? An insight, a collaborator, energy?
