Prepare for OpenCon 2017 — whether you are participating remotely or in-person at Berlin — by learning about how to apply design thinking methods to Open Research and Education!  OpenCon 2017 will focus on identifying challenges in advancing Open scholarship and working together to build inclusive, equitable solutions. During this optional webinar, we'll be introduced to some basic concepts used in design thinking: a set of tools to design thoughtful solutions to problems with humans, empathy, and the bigger picture in mind.

This session will be facilitated by Lorraine Chuen from R2RC. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join.

The call will be at 2pm Eastern Time in North America. Time zones can be confusing! Please use this link to add the event to your Google Calendar.

Call Agenda

  • What do we mean by Design Thinking & Human Centred Design?

  • Why might this approach be useful for Open Research & Open Education?

      • Understanding Systems: A bird’s eye view of a problem

      • Understanding Users: Know who you’re designing for

    • Designing Solutions: Learn how to prototype something simple that you can test and iterate on.
