Find a local speaker or two, have a few short talks and then adjourn for discussion. These types of events are great for networking and keeping people informed and interested. Meet-ups are also great for connecting with like-minded allies during, before, or after a conference. This is useful for keeping a community together and the momentum going after a satellite event or a similar conference!
Looking for a speaker?
-
Check if there’s a speaker in your region through our Open Speakers Database, which includes over 200 Open Access, Open Data, or Open Education speakers from over 40 countries.
-
Talk to your scholarly communications librarian at your institution (if there is one), who is familiar with Open issues and who may have suggestions on potential speakers for you to contact
- Ask around - are there any graduate students, early career researchers, faculty, or members of the public in your community or institution that engage in Open Access, Open Data, or Open Education - either in their own work/research, or in some other way?
Know someone who has given, or could give, a talk who isn’t on the database? We’d love if you could contribute by adding an entry to the Speakers Database!
