Will you come?

Details

OpenCon community calls give a chance for you to learn what's happening in open research and education around the world, share what you're doing and find collaborators and opportunities.

In partnership with the #futurecommons group (part of Force11), we’ll brainstorm answers to the following questions. All thoughts are welcome, the idea is to develop a broad idea of what people think! This will serve as the basis for Force11’s 2-day workshop in Madrid “Defining the Scholarly Commons: Reimagining Research Communication”.

  • Why do scholars do what they do?
  • Why does society support scholarship?
  • What is scholarship? What is a commons?
  • What does the term “scholarly commons” mean to you?
  • How do we arrive at an inclusive, globally representative scholarly communication ecosystem?
  • How do we bridge current divides between research and education?
  • What if scholarly communication had been built on digital sharing and openness, rather than on print and profit models? What can we imagine without centuries of scholarly publishing tradition in the mix?
  • When we embrace Open, what is possible?

and finally

  • How can the OpenCon Community be represented at conferences like this (and others)?
  • How can we increase the impact of this workshop and others like it? How can we connect it to other initiatives and events?

Call Agenda

You can find all the proposed agendas and minutes from the community calls in one place, right here. The best way to share this link is with: http://bit.ly/OpenConCommunityCalls

Joining details

To join the conference call from your computer, go to https://www.uberconference.com/SPARCconference.

To join the conference by phone within the US, dial 855 277 1599.  To join the conference by phone outside of the US, see https://www.uberconference.com/international.  This page provides local dial-in numbers for 50 countries.  If available, you can dial into the local number for your country then enter our conference line information when prompted (phone number: 855 277 1599).  If a local dial-in number isn’t available for your country, we suggest you either login from your computer using the instructions above or dial the US number using Skype.
Beware, calls are minuted and possibly recorded! What happens in community calls, doesn't stay in community calls.

What to expect

Community calls are always friendly, and we love new faces. The more you participate, the more you'll get out of it! No doubt there will be a lot of this too.
